Going to the next level
As a software engineer looking to be a smart one – someday, I thought I should improve some of my technical skills.
Lately I’ve been reading many technical stuff, mainly about JEE.
Beside JEE ones there are also some pretty valuable titles at my bookshelf today:
Sql Cookbook, 1st Edition.
This one is helping me to improve my database querying knowledge.
I got this because it sucks when I think about how long I’ve been living with my poor database skills.
Effective Java, Second Edition.
This is a pretty nice Java material.
It’s sort of a conceptual book, and it is helping me with some basic Java stuff – closing the gap of my short time as a Java developer.
Java Performance Tuning, 2nd Edition.
This is a very beautiful book.
I must say that it take some time to get some insights from this one, probably because I’m not as smart as I wished to.
Anyway, I’ve been learning a lot from this one.
Software engineering is no more than an empirical activity, that teaches you a lot every day of work.
But in order to be a competent professional, you will be required to know about many groovy stuff, and basic-level knowledge is not going to fulfill it for a long time.
Be prepared to read tons of literature if you intend to be – instead of pretend to be – a smart software engineer.
